CLAREMONT — The 2021 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl will have some serious local talent on the football field to represent our area as nine players have been chosen to play from the schools we cover.

“Being selected to play for New Hampshire in the Shrine game means a lot to me,” said Stevens quarterback Owen Taylor. “I’m excited to play alongside some great athletes and beat Vermont.”

New Hampshire state champions Newport will have three players while the Vermont state champions Yellow Jackets will have one member suiting up one more time.

Newport’s Jagger Lovely will be the third Lovely to represent Newport in this game as he joins PJ and Gavin to step on the field one more time as a high school player.

“It means a lot to be selected for this team,” Jagger Lovely said. “I’m proud to be able to represent the great town of Newport just like my father and my brother did. I’m excited to meet new athletes from the state of New Hampshire and play one last game of football.”

Paul Landry from Kingswood Regional High School will coach the Granite State team while Brattleboro’s Chad Pacheco will lead the Green Mountain boys. Fall Mountain graduate Tanner Loupa will join Pacheco on the Vermont sidelines as an assistant coach.

The grand daddy of football games will take place on Saturday, Aug. 7, with the parade starting at 3 p.m. and the kickoff will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Dave Wolk Stadium at Castleton University in Castleton, Vermont.

“It feels great to have the opportunity to represent Stevens Cardinals football one last time,” Taylor said.

The complete list of area selections include: Owen Abrahamsen from Windsor High School, Alexander Flynn from Fall Mountain Regional High School, Jack Burke from Bellows Falls Union High School, Jack Harrington from Bellows Falls Union High School, Jagger Lovely from Newport High School, Josh Orlowski from Newport High School, Josh Sharron from Newport High School, Tyler Swain from Fall Mountain Regional High School, and Owen Taylor from Stevens High School.
