Eleanor Goggin Isenburg ROCKVILLE, Md. — Eleanor Kathleen Goggin Isenburg, 93, of Rockville, Maryland, died peacefully in her home March 3, 2021. She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Claremont, New Hampshire, the daughter of William and Gertrude Landry Goggin. She graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont in 1946 and from the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences, now the New Hampshire Institute of Arts, in 1950. She worked as a telephone operator in Claremont and Manchester to pay for her education. Mrs. Isenburg was also a cellist who played in the Stevens High School Orchestra and later, in the Manchester Institute Symphony Orchestra and the Dartmouth College Symphony Orchestra in Hanover. She moved to Rockville in 1957 when her husband, Ralph L. Isenburg, a medical photographer, began working for the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Mrs. Isenburg was a member of the Stevens High School Alumni Association in Claremont. She was also a member of the Parent Teacher Association for many years while her children attended Montgomery County public schools in Rockville. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish Church in Rockville for 64 years. She had a longtime interest in the life of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War and was a charter member of the Montgomery County Civil War Round Table. She was predeceased by her husband; her sister, Gwendolyn Goggin Adams of Los Angeles, California, and her brother, Jerome N. Goggin of Claremont; and by her parents. She is survived by her sons, Kevin R. Isenburg and wife Kathy, of Mount Airy, Steven H. Isenburg and wife Felicia of Tuscarora, Lawrence A. Isenburg and wife Jenny of Germantown, Russell L. Isenburg and companion Connie Stoner of Mount Airy, Randall W. Isenburg and Gary A. Isenburg and wife Fatimah, all of Rockville; her sister, Andrienne Goggin Clark of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Kevin Ray Isenburg and wife Anitra of Lyles, Tennessee, Daniel A. Isenburg of Mount Airy and Laura M. Isenburg of Berkley Springs, West Virginia, Charles P. Isenburg of Bethesda, Alicia S. Isenburg of Germantown and Justin J. Isenburg of Rockville. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Goggin of Claremont, New Hampshire; her nephews, William H. Goggin and wife Sharon of Claremont, New Hampshire, Timothy A. Goggin and wife Molly of Pittsfield, New Hampshire; and her niece, Pamela Adams Hagar and husband Phillip of Santa Monica, California. Her funeral was held in St. Mary’s Parish Church in Rockville. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery where her husband, a World War II veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart, is buried.
