NEW LONDON — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg is pleased to share Kearsarge Regional Middle School Principal Stephen Paterson has been named Middle School Principal of the Year.

The New Hampshire Association of School Principals (NHASP) awards the honor annually to recognize an exemplary Granite State administrator for their contributions to their district.

“Steve is a tremendous asset to our district. He has led the charge to implement key initiatives that better support our students and fostered a culture of professionalism and collaboration,” said Superintendent Feneberg. “He is well deserving of this honor and we are proud to have him as a member of our team.”

Paterson has worked in the district since July 2015.

In his role, Paterson has prioritized supporting students’ social emotional wellbeing and academic growth while at Kearsarge, and created the school’s advisory program to foster a strong rapport between students and staff. He has also played a key role in implementing competency based education districtwide as well as response to intervention.

“I am very honored and humbled to be recognized for this award,” said principal Paterson. “It goes without saying that this recognition is really about what we have achieved as a whole school, together. We have come so far and I know that we would not have been able to achieve what we have without the trust and support we share with each other. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the coming years.”

Paterson will be recognized during a ceremony at the New Hampshire EDies this June, details of which are not yet available but will abide by public health guidance as the pandemic evolves. This May, NHASP will also hold a private formal dinner to honor this year’s Principal of the Year award recipients.
