WINDSOR, Vt. — Springfield’s Izzy Belisle was dazzling on Tuesday as she put the potent Yellowjackets bats to sleep for a complete game win in an old Central Vermont League (CVL) matchup.

Under perfect blue skies with a decent crowd on hand, the Cosmos pushed across three runs on three hits midway into the game after Windsor jumped out to a quick one run lead early and never looked back to grab the win.

“We’ve been waiting two years to play and a game against Windsor is always something special,” said Cosmos head coach Andy Bladyka.

Molly Leonard started things off in the top of the third for Springfield when she reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by Belisle. Tori Otis would plate Haley Streeter with a single of her own and Jill Muther would rip an RBI single to left to score Otis as the Cosmos grabbed a 3-1 lead.

Windsor would slice into the Springfield without a hit in the fourth inning but Belisle would get stronger as the game moved deeper.

“We have a lot of confidence and we really made some good contact against a really solid Windsor team today,” said Belisle who worked as hard as anyone during the off season according to her coaches. “We had a decent day.”

Springfield increased their lead in the top of the seventh inning as Maddie Clark’s second hit of the day started things off then Belisle would add to her monster day with a double and RBI as she collected her third hit. Streeter would line a rope that scored Belisle as the Cosmos lead grew to 6-2.

“Our schedule is solid every game and today just wasn’t our day,” said Windsor head coach Heather Stearns as the Yellowjackets had no answer for the junior from Springfield and went quietly in the seventh inning. “We hit the ball hard but it always seemed to be right at someone. I’ll just tip my hat to Springfield and get ready for Hartford.”

Springfield had six hits on the day while the Yellowjackets only scratched out two singles off the bats of Adi Prior and Peyton Richardson.
