Dylan Chambers went the distance on the mound with an 11-strikeout, zero-walk performance for Stevens as the Cardinals continue to put up large offensive numbers on Monday.
Zack Bundy led the hit parade with a triple, and single to go along with three RBIs. Stevens broke open a close game in the fourth inning plating five Cardinals as Caden Ferland, Bundy, Chambers, and Owen Taylor all contributed with hits to give Chambers all the run support he would need.
Colby Shepard had a two-hit day while Ferland collected two RBIs. Chambers struck out the side in the seventh to close out the Cardinals second win in as many games on 92 pitches.
Stevens finished with nine hits while limiting Mascoma to only five hits.
Softball remains perfect with another offensive explosion, 25-1Brianna Frisbee got the win in the circle in the five-inning game. Frisbee had six strikeouts, zero walks, and gave up only two hits.
Defensively Zoey Foote had the hot spot at second base grabbing five Mascoma outs.
Offensively the bats stayed on fire with 20 Cardinal hits.
Kylie Bundy led the attack with four hits. Kayla Maccioli, Gabby Savo, and Alex Perez each had three hits and Foote and Aiken each added two hits apiece.
Stevens welcomes Mascoma on Wednesday with the first night games of the season. Baseball and softball first pitches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Green Mountain defeats Bellows Falls, 15-10Taryn Darrell went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the loss for Bellows Falls in softball action.
Burr & Burton Academy captures 7-3 win in JV baseball action
Bellows Falls junior varsity baseball was unable to notch their first win of the season in a tough loss to Burr & Burton Academy dropping the Saturday match-up 7-3.
Bellows Falls starting pitcher Kevin Patterson kept getting stronger as the game wore on and kept the score close. Jesse Darrell once again pitched solid in relief of Patterson striking out four batters in two innings of work.
Offensively, Bellows Falls showed signs of life early thanks to stolen bases from Walker James and Jesse Darrell and an RBI single from Cole Moore.
“As a whole, it was a solid effort and I’m very proud of the boys for hanging around with a pretty solid team (BBA) for the majority of the game,” said Bellows Falls junior varsity coach Brighton Bischofberger. “We just had a couple bad breaks in our base running and in the end, the chips just didn’t fall for us today, I’m confident things are going to start clicking for us soon.”
