Stevens breaks up no-hitter during 3-0 loss

CLAREMONT — Hanover pitcher Sam Sacerdote was nearly perfect on Thursday as he kept the Cardinals bat silenced except for a sharp single up the middle by Ty Therieult.

Hanover scratched a single run across the plate in the third and added another in the forth with a hit batter a weak single and an error to put the visitors up 2-0.

Sacerdote was brilliant and made quick work of the first nine Cardinal batters using only six pitches in the third inning until Therieult broke up the no hitter with his single right up the middle in the 4th inning. Therieult was left stranded when Owen Taylor’s blast to right field ended up in the Hanover outfielders leather after ripping a shot over the fence that was foul and ended up in a neighbors backyard in a bid to tie things up.

Sacerdote was in complete control as he retired the Stevens batters with regularity and only allowed one base runner the entire game while facing only 22 batters. He retired the last 10 batters in order as he grew stronger as the game went along and finished with three of his four strikeouts in the last two innings.

Taylor went the distance and pitched a solid game allowing four hits while striking out two batters but four Cardinals errors didn’t help.

The Cardinals (2-3) will welcome Kearsarge to the city on Saturday for a game under the lights starting at 7 p.m.
