Charles B. Duncan CLAREMONT — Charles B. Duncan, 72, of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away at home on May 3, 2021. Born in Claremont, Charlie was the first of five children born to late Richard C. and Theofilia (Wiltowski) Duncan. Raised in Newport, he graduated from Newport High School in 1967, and went on to earn a B.A. degree from Dartmouth College, majoring in Religion. He later earned a certificate from New England School of Alcohol Studies. Charlie was an easy going, pleasant guy, who was happy to help his friends and those through AA, and the Catholic Church. He had a great sense of humor and loved sharing stories. He was usually in the company of his beloved Whippet, at work or at home. Among the many jobs he held, his favorite by far was building dry stone walls. Self-employed as a dry mason for much of his life, his artistry is displayed at many public and private venues, including the garden walls in the back of the Tracy Memorial Library in New London, New Hampshire. Charlie would often chat with visitors as he pondered which stone to place next. Charlie was predeceased by his parents and his loving companion, Marlys (McKay) Duncan. He is survived by siblings, Janis and her husband, Edmund Taylor, of Hilton Head South Carolina, Barbara and her husband, Sam Salmon, of Oliva, Spain, Thomas Duncan of Warner, New Hampshire, William Duncan and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Ipswich, Massachusetts; stepsons, Troy Burns of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Tommy Burns of Claremont; daughter Fran and her husband, Jason, and two grandchildren, Justin and Samantha, of Long Island, New York; and niece Rebecca and nephews, Matthew Ross and Riley. Charlie will be remembered at a Sunday Mass on June 20 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s in Claremont. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
