Springfield Farmers’ Market opens for season; Chamber postpones fair, festival

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce recently announced the postponement of the Vermont Apple Festival & Craft Fair until 2022 while the Springfield Farmers’ Market gears up to begin its season.

Planning is a yearlong process that requires a huge amount of effort of staff and volunteers. Currently, businesses and group are still emerging from recovery after the challenges of the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

“Although it saddens us to skip another year, we are so grateful for everyone’s ongoing involvement,” a press release states. “We’re excited to announce that the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with the Springfield Farmers’ Market this year to help boost their outdoor gatherings and to bring an Apple Fest-like atmosphere to their final 2021 market.”

This will be be held in the usual location in the grassy area at 280 Clinton St. on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The Springfield Farmers’ Market will open for the season on Saturday, June 5, at its summer location on Clinton Street, near the entrance to the Toonerville Trail. The market will run every Saturday, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Saturday, Oct. 9.

This year, there are more vendors than ever, offering locally-produced honey, natural beef, pork, and poultry, artisan breads, free-range eggs, maple and beeswax products, fresh local produce, delicious baked goods, fine silversmithing, textiles and other quality crafts, exciting snack foods, traditional jams, jellies, pickles, and relishes, home-cut fries, burgers, and dogs.

The summer will be busier than ever, as the Market partners with the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce, the library, and other community groups to offer races, demonstrations, family fun activities, and an Apple Festival-themed Harvest Extravaganza at the last market of the season.

Organizers look forward to seeing everyone at the Springfield Farmers’ Markets this spring, summer, and fall; thank the Apple Festival staff, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and guests for continued involvement; and look forward to reconvening on Oct. 8, 2022.
