Local athletes claim state championships in track and field

The Newport Tigers girls were the best in the 4 x100 meter relay and 4 x400 meter relay as Maddox Lovely, Morgan Roberts, Eliza Bates Taylor Fellows all earned the win. Bates was also crowned champion in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles.

There were two Fall Mountain Wildcats who claimed two state champions as Isabel Bushway won the D3 javelin while Tyler Swain earned top honors in the pole vault.

The boys team at Newport was all over top awards as multiple events were won by the Tigers. Ryder Lovely won the 200 meter, Jagger Lovely won the 300 Hurdles and Marius Edward’s won the discus throw. Eric Wilkinson, Chase Hamilton and Ryder and Jagger Lovely grabbed first in the 4 x100 meter relay.

The Cardinals Zach Bailey took home a first-place place finish in the 100M dash at the State Unified Meet.
