WINDSOR — Dalton Clifford’s towering 400 foot triple to right center knocked in Kaleb Swett to push the Jacks ahead to stay as Windsor looked sharp earning a 6-4 win over Leland and Gray on Tuesday. “I’ve been in a drought but today it all came together” said Clifford as he added a deep double to his hit total on the day.
Ethan Belvin took a bat off his wrist early in the game and was replaced by Swett behind the dish who responded with an outstanding game calling signals for Jamie Richardson’s Jacks. “We had a lot of players that rose up today and Kaleb was one of them” said Richardson.
Trailing 1-0 after Leland and Gray’s first at bat, Jordan Place started Windsor off with a sharp single and would later score to tie things up 1-1 after a Maison Fortin single. “This team gives 100% on every pitch, we just want to win our last game” said Place.
With Windsor leading 4-1, the visitors were looking to cut into that lead and had a golden opportunity as Dufor came on in relief of Belvin with the bases loaded. The visitors managed to push across only one run as Place made a great play from his shortstop position and a throw to Clifford at first to end the threat. The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the fifth inning when Dufoud and Fortin would score with the key hit coming off the bat of Owen Rhoad giving Windsor a 6-2 lead. Leland and Gray would fight until the end with 2 runs in their last at bat but Dufoud would reach back to strike out the last batter to end the game with Windsor headed to Thetford after a 6-4 win.
Johnny Clark (4 innings, 1 earned run on 62 pitches) grabbed the win against L&G ace Kristian Pierson (6 innings, 4 earned runs on 86 pitches) before Adam Dufour(3 innings, 2 earned runs on 35 pitches) came on to finish the game for Windsor. “Today seemed like we finally got some breaks that we hadn’t seen all year and took advantage of them” said Richardson.
Place had four stolen bases on the day to go along with 3 for 4 hits on the day. Ethan Lawyer grabbed the other hit for Windsor as the Jacks swiped a total seven bases along with five hits.
