The weekend was not kind to local teams in the playoffs, as the season came to an end too soon for some.
While the Yellow Jackets and Lakers softball were successful, others were not.
The Windsor Yellow Jackets baseball nine headed to take on No. 1 seed Thetford and rallied to tie things up in the last inning. After trailing big late in the game, the Jacks put some magic together to push Thetford to the edge. Trailing 8-2 in the seventh inning, Jordan Place scored on a single by Adam Dufour then a home run to left by Ethan Belvin made Thetford a bit nervous as the Jacks had cut the lead to 8-5. Charles Palmer singled and was run for with Cooper Bevis. Dalton Clifford walked, Owen Rhoad was hit by a pitch, and Johnny Clark reached on an error scoring Bevis. The Jacks would tie the game 8-8, when Mason’s smash was too hot to handle as Rhoad scores entering the last of the seventh.
The top seed would escape for the win when Kingsbury would knock in the winning run on an 0-2 count to end the Jacks’ season.
Clark started for Windsor and add two RBIs to his day, while Place and Belvin had a couple of RBIs also. Dufour and Fortin would knock in a run each. Windsor pitchers totaled 150 pitches while Thetford threw 138.
The Bellows Falls Terriers were tied heading into the late innings, as well but Hazen would grab two runs late and head off with a 4-2 win.
Across the River, the always-tough Monadnock Huskies ended the Fall Mountain Wildcats year with an 11-1 loss in Langdon.
The Sunapee boys hosted Derryfield and in between the rain and finished their season with a 9-3 loss.
The Lady Cosmos had a Saturday morning date with Middlebury that ending their hopes for a title while both the Green Mountain teams called it a season as the No. 7 seeded boys fell to No. 2 Peoples, 7-3, while the trip to BFA Fairfax for the Chieftain girls ended their run, too.
