Rupert Joseph Molloy GEORGES MILLS — Rupert Joseph Molloy, fondly known as “Pi,” passed on peacefully June 3, 2021, in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, after 108 years of life. Rupert was born in St. Shotts, Newfoundland, on Sept. 28, 1912, to John T. Molloy and Catherine Lewis, one of several siblings. In October of 1940, he married Catherine Penney and they raised one son, John. Rupert was preceded in death by his wife Catherine; father, John, and mother, Catherine; and their son, John;. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Virginia Molloy; grandchildren, Brian and Brenda Molloy, Jean and Norman Dalton, Sean and Kristina Molloy and Caitlin and Patrick Clapp; his great-grandchildren, Spenser, Jack, Silvia Rupert, Genavieve, Giovanna, John and Collin; and several nephews and nieces. From St. Shotts, Newfoundland, to Boston, Massachusetts, to Sunapee, New Hampshire, Pi touched generations of lives. He was a pillar of his family and embodied a strong work ethic and love of family. Living in Newfoundland, Pi learned how to work with his hands at an early age. He helped his brothers build their homes, worked as foreman building ships at Bethlehem Steel and could master any home repairs or projects needed. Pi kept his family and heritage close. He spent countless hours helping his son, John, with his business of convenience stores and later caring for his grandchildren, making lunches, attending sporting events, teaching them to fish and later still caring for his great-grandchildren. Each summer, Pi travelled back to Newfoundland. A visit from Uncle Rube was always greeted with excitement. He always made time to visit with his nieces and nephews and their families. This tradition of visiting Newfoundland continues with regular family reunions, where he and his brothers are honored by all of their family. Some of Rupert’s favorite pastimes included playing cards and betting on horse races with his brothers and watching the Boston Red Sox. At the end of the day, Rupert enjoyed a rum & coke and his favorite meal of fish cakes and beans! At 108, Pi lived life to the fullest. He never complained and always said he had “no aches and pains.” He will be remembered by his smile, endless patience and passion for family. A life that touches the hearts of others’ lives on forever. In true Newfoundland spirit, Pi was the Finest Kind. Additional parking may be found at the school parking lot and along Main Street. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Salt Hill Shanty in Newbury, New Hampshire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Newport, New Hampshire, and a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Massachusetts.
