CONCORD — Miah Hamm’s home run brought in Anah Durkee in the early going as Sunapee and Newmarket were tied 2-2 after a busy first inning.

Things settled down until the Mules broke the tie with three big runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead as they strung together five singles.

The Lakers would cut into the lead in the fifth when Molly Reed singled in Durkee who had reached with her second hit of the day. Natalie Austin went the distance for Sunapee and was rolling along with the Lakers within reach trailing 5-3 entering the final inning.

The Lakers got hits from Durkee (2-3), Hamm (1-2 with a walk), Reed (1-2 with an RBI), Emma McNally (1-3), and Krista Miner (1-2) but no hits came after the fifth as Newmarket will head to face Woodsville on Saturday.

“We struggled a bit at the plate today but Nat pitched well and was composed all game,” said Sunapee head coach Bonnie Cruz.

The Lakers season ended with a 13-5 record including two wins on the road in the playoffs.
