CLAREMONT, N.H. – Rain forced early postponement of most of Friday’s scheduled racing event at Claremont Motorsports Park. The night’s planned five-division card was halted when a third round of showers swept in with only five heat races completed.
Twice earlier, showers had soaked the Thrasher Road third-mile. Twice speedway promoter Mike Parks had rolled up his sleeves and soldiered on. Twice, a large posse of racers had strapped in and dried the track. The third time, though, was too much.
Friday’s early washout was the second of the young season, those happening after a complete rain out back on April 30.
Late Model Sportsman stars Ricky Bly and Ben Poland had won their respective qualifiers in anticipation of the night’s scheduled LMS triple 20s before the rain came, and the Pure Stockers had set their feature lineup with three heats. Miles McClay, second in last week’s 25-lapper, escaped injury when his ride slammed violently into the turn-two wall Friday.
Next Friday, June 18, the NHSTRA Modifieds will lead a five-division night of racing at Claremont Motorsports Park. The Route 103 Auto Late Model Sportsmen will have the night off so they can compete in a Battle for The Belt event at Lee.
The June 18 event will start where it was suspended Friday. The Six Shooters were on the track and readying to start their heat race when Friday’s event was halted.
