The Gnome Doors of New London are back

Great news! The Gnome doors on the trails in town have been reinstalled. Members of the New London Conservation Commission collected, cleaned and repainted the doors, and the children of the Windy Hill Nursery Class worked very hard to decorate them. Many doors were returned to their original location but others were placed on new trails.

As you may recall, the children of the Windy Hill Nursery Class have two resident Gnomes, Bob and Cortland, who were the inspiration for the construction of the doors. Their family and friends were looking to relocate to New Hampshire and the only way Gnomes can relocate is if they find special doors, decorated by children, and placed at the bottom of trees in the wooded areas around town. Bob and Cortland knew many new doors needed to be made and children of the Windy Hill Nursery Class answered their call for help.

Now the doors are back and the NLCC will be running their ice cream contest again. Children, 12 and younger, can win free ice cream if they can find all of the Gnomes doors on the town’s trails. To enter, download the Gnome Door form, which you can find on the NLCC website nl-nhcc.com/gnome-doors. Check off the boxes as you find the doors, then drop off the completed form at the Town Offices or mail them to: New London Town Offices, Conservation Commission, 375 Main St., New London, NH 03257.

We ask the parents or guardians to take pictures of their kids as they find the Gnome doors, then share them with us. We’re sure kids will really enjoy finding the doors and we’d love to see pictures. You can post to the New London Conservation Commission Facebook page or the New London Recreation Department Facebook page.

So take your kids out on the trails and see if you can locate all the Gnome doors. It’s a great way to spend quality time with your children while you get some fresh air and exercise. Plus, your child can win a free ice cream. What could be better than that?
