Letter to the Editor: Adopt-A-Spot program kick off

Adopt-A-Spot program kick off

The Claremont City Council has recently made blight remediation a priority. As a first step, Parks & Recreation Director Mark Brislin has introduced a program in conjunction with the Claremont Litter Task Force that fits nicely with this mission.

The new Adopt-A-Spot program gives individual citizens, non-profits, businesses, and other local organizations the opportunity to show pride in our community. In addition to reducing litter along roadways and throughout the park system, this initiative is intended to educate everyone about proper litter disposal and build support for sustained litter prevention efforts. Adopt-a-Spot volunteers will enhance the environment by sprucing up designated areas citywide —removing litter and debris, controlling weeds, planting trees/shrubs and flowers, mulching, and identifying and eliminating hazards.

To learn more about participating, which spots are available to adopt and how to apply, please scroll down the Claremont Parks and Recreation website at claremontnh.com/parks-and-recreation-landing-page to find the Adopt-A-Spot information and download an application form. It is easy to complete and simple to submit.

It is also a lot of fun! On Monday, July 4, the Claremont Democrats launched their Adopt-A-Spot project. We enjoyed coffee and donuts together before picking up trash, planting flowers, pruning trees, pulling weeds, and cleaning up the front walkway at the Fiske Free Library. We even found a Concord grapevine hidden among the lilacs.

We invite you to get with the program: Pull your own group together and Adopt-A-Spot! What part of Claremont will you beautify?
