Sunapee duo headed to the Lions Cup on Saturday

The Lions Twin State Soccer Association Board of Directors, in conjunction with the New Hampshire and Vermont Soccer Coaches Associations, is excited to announce the return of annual Lions Cup.

The Sunapee boys state championship team will have defender Josh Heino on the field while the Lakers Abi Pollari will showcase her 100-plus goals career on Saturday, July 17, as the only local players to participate in this history rich game.

Since 1975 the best soccer players in New Hampshire and Vermont have met on the pitch to raise funds for the Lions charities from across the twin states.

This years games will take place on the turf field at Hanover high school. Not only will Sunapee be represented on the field but Lakers boys head coach Jack Iacopino will be joining Lebanon’s Rob Johnstone on the boys sidelines.

Windsor’s Evelyn Page was chosen to play also but is away at Clemson University but other area players on the teams include Tyler St. Martin from Lebanon while Dylan Kotlowitz and Henry Aspinwall will represent Hanover on the New Hampshire boys roster. Sally Rainey, from Lebanon will join Hanover’s Charlotte Johnson, Sage McGinley-Smith and Casey McGuire along with the New Hampshire coaches Doug Kennedy (Hanover) and Breck Taber (Lebanon) on the woman’s team.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. as the women will start things off while the men’ match begins at 4:30 p.m. Between the two games there will be introductions to recognize players selected to the 2020 teams from New Hampshire and Vermont.
