Rebecca B. Irving NEW LONDON — Rebecca B. Irving, formerly of North Pleasant Street in New London, New Hampshire, passed away Aug. 7, 2021, 10 days shy of her 101st birthday. She was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on Aug. 17, 1920, the daughter of Frederick C. and Mary (Chapman) Irving. She went to Beaver County Day School in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, graduating in 1939 and received an Associate in Science degree from Colby Junior College in New London, New Hampshire, in 1942. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1943 and again in 1975 from Colby-Sawyer College. Miss Irving had been a professor of Medical Technology from 1954-1982 at Colby Junior College and Colby-Sawyer College. A resident of New London since 1954, she previously resided in Norwell, Massachusetts, and prior to that, Brookline and Needham, Massachusetts. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in New London, an Emeritus Member of the American Society of Medical Technologists and was active in the Alumni Association at Colby-Sawyer College. In 2016, 34 years after retirement, Colby Sawyer College awarded her an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of the positive, far-reaching consequences her life’s work brought to the school and its graduates. Becky is survived by her brother, Colin Irving, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, five nieces and six nephews. She was predeceased by her longtime friend and traveling companion, Nancy Draper; her parents, Frederick C. and Mary Irving; her sisters, Mary and Frances; and brother, Frederick Jr. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Sept. 8, 2021, in West Part Cemetery, New London, New Hampshire, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Barbara Cavin, a former Medical Technology student, presiding.
