Dwight Davis

Dwight Davis CLAREMONT — Dwight Davis, 76, died unexpectedly Aug. 28, 2021, at his home in Claremont, New Hampshire. He was a resident of Claremont for the past three years, lived in Ascutney, Vermont, for several years with his beloved wife, Janet Davis, before her passing in 2015. He was born Dec. 18, 1944, the son of Maurice Davis and Ellen Hill Davis. Dwight’s lifelong residency was Newport. He attended Newport High School and immediately served in U.S. Army during the Vietnam War 1963. He was decorated with Marksman, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter. Returning home in 1969, Dwight married and had two children, Matthew and Michelle Davis. In the mid-’80s, Dwight met and married his beloved, Janet Davis, and remained married for 34 years. He was a talented contractor, worked at Sturm Ruger, the VA hospital and was the sexton of both Brownsville and Sheddsville cemeteries until his passing. Dwight had a love of photography that he shared with his close friend, Barbara Putnam. His works had been accepted by the National Geographic, VINS and the Audubon Society Vermont where he kept watch over several eagle’s nests, owls and vultures. Dwight helped with Meals on Wheels, was always helping others. His heart, sense of humor, loyalty and sense of family will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife, Janet Davis, he was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Hill Davis and Maurice Davis. Surviving family includes his children, son Matthew Davis, daughter-in-law Theresa Davis, daughter Michelle Davis Widmer, son-in-law Kevin Widmer, daughter Jennifer Courcelle, son-in-law Ron Courcelle, son Robert Davis; grandchildren, Lynisha Avery (great-granddaughter Juliana Parker), Shane Davis, Stephanie Dougie, Jonathan Davis, Jolene Courcelle, Samuel Courcelle, Jackson Courcelle; brothers and sisters, John Davis, Richard Davis, Janet DeRose, Nancy Davis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 3, graveside in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney, Vermont.
