Weekend Recaps: Sunapee fall to Nute in volleyball action

The Lakers lost to Nute in three matches Friday night but not without a battle.

Each match featured point trading right until the end with scores of 25 to 21 in set one, 25 to 19 in set two, and 25 to 23 in a nail-biter third set.

An early season injury forced the Lakers to adjust to a new starting rotation, with sophomore Riley Parenteau stepping in as a setter in her first varsity game experience along with veteran Lyla Holobowicz who also set in the matches.

“The girls did an excellent job working together and communicating with each other. They played very well. We were two evenly matched teams which made for a great game.”

Highlights of the game include solid serving performances by Emma McNally and Parenteu and strong defensive play from Molly Reed and Kaitlyn Claus. Allison Tschudin dominated the net with several blocks.

Arlington handles TerriersBellows Falls played strong defense led by McKenna Bingham, but Arlington did an amazing job at finding their way in and getting the goals.

Bellows Falls’ Jenna Dolloph had some great bids to find the net but the Arlington Goalie was determined not to let anything by.

Alannah McAllister with her never-quit attitude continued to put pressure on Arlington on both ends of the field and senior Phaedra Cilibrasi took the ball to the goal with ease but unfortunately wasn’t able to get it past the goalie.

Bellows Falls goalie Corina Mitchell had several great saves but a strong Arlington club took the win 7-0.

Bellows Falls Girls varsity soccer will travel to Long Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 15, for a 4:30 p.m. game.

Sunapee boys soccer keeps rollingThe Sunapee Lakers earned another shutout versus cross town opponent Mount Royal.

Sam Kress and Hunter Morse each had a pair of goals while David Jiminez, Vincet Borelli, and Eric Nangeroni each scored one with a final score of 7-0.

Matthew Tschudin had 2 assists.

The defense was once again led by Andrew Claus and Cameron Messenger.

“Today our team played well,”said head coach Jack Iacopino. “We still need to work on a few things but the team seems to be moving the ball pretty well and the defense was very solid.”

Sunapee (4-0) will travel to Newmarket (1-3) on Friday evening. The last time these two teams met was in the finals two seasons ago when Newmarket beat the Lakers 2-0.

Lebanon grabs top honors at HooperThe Lebanon Raiders won the tri-school golf match on Monday downing Fall Mountain and Stevens.

The Wildcats’ Mitch Cormier and Lebanon’s Roy Shepard grabbed individual honors tied with 25 points each while the Cardinals CJ Naughler finished in thirds place.

Jacks storm back to tie Otter Valley, 2-2Windsor was trailing 2-0 and came back to score with four seconds left in the third on a goal from Meagan Holling assisted by Amber Simonds and grabbed another score on a goal from Alexina Peckinpaugh assisted by Gwen Ambrose in the final frame. Lindsey Young had the complete game in net with eight saves.

Windsor is now 1-2-1 and faces Bellows Falls on Thursday, Sept. 16, at home at 4 p.m.

Sunapee grabs 3-0 win at Stevens

After a ferocious first game which saw a Cardinal comeback stopped just short of a win, the Lakers took that momentum and finished the day with a three-game win in volleyball action on Monday.
