NEWPORT — Richards Elementary School students and staff are now masking up after school officials confirmed three active cases of COVID-19.
“Following out plan this means that for at least the next seven to 10 days masking will be required indoors for all students and staff at Richards School,” a news release states.
Officials also note in the release that the amount of time necessary for masking may be extended if additional students or staff members acquire the novel coronavirus.
Newport school officials remind parents and guardians to check regularly for updates on the school website at sau43.org or on Facebook.
In Claremont, Stevens High School officials informed the district that five COVID-19 cases had been identified and subsequently removed those students from the school community until such a time that they meet the criteria for discontinuation of isolation.
According to SAU 6 lead nurse Veronica Januszewski and principal Patricia Barry, the five students “contracted COVID-19 outside of the school environment,” and therefore the situation is not constituted as a “cluster.”
Officials are asking students and staff to continue monitoring for signs and symptoms common with COVID-19 for a 14-day period, which ends on Sunday, Sept. 26.
