UNITY — Sullivan County Health Care is once again restricting visitation due to a recent COVID-19 case

Beginning on Friday, Sept. 17, all visitation to Stearns 3 — a section of the Stearns building which houses 124 of the facility’s 156 total beds — has been restricted in order to determine if there is any spread of the novel coronavirus.

Ted Purdy, administrator and director of health care services at Sullivan County Health Care, said the case was detected after the facility increased its COVID testing for unvaccinated staff to twice a week “due to the high statewide and county level of COVID transmission.”

The per diem employee who was identified to have COVID-19 via a rapid test had received both shots of the vaccine but there had not been 14 days since the last shot.

Response testing for residents and staff in the Stearns 3 section has been initiated, according to Purdy.

“As always, the safety and well-being of our residents is our primary responsibility,” said Purdy in a news release. “I ask for your cooperation with the visitation restrictions on Stearns 3.”
