Bellows Falls played strong and held Leland & Gray scoreless until about 12 minutes in when a missed clear led to a goal.
The Terriers have made good progress since the beginning of the year with confidence and aggressiveness growing with each match. Around five minutes later Leland & Gray scored off a ball that was headed from a corner. As the ball swung in an Leland & Gray player got a head to it and it went straight up, the Bellows Falls defenders couldn’t clear the ball away, and suddenly it was an Leland & Gray goal.
“Going into halftime 0-2 against a very strong team is definitely not a loss for us,” said Bellows Falls coach Scott Hansen.
At the beginning of the second half another miscue resulted in a third Leland & Gray goal.
Less than a minute later Bellows Falls linked up a few good passes that led to a partial break away for Colby Dearborn. While running in the box he got fouled and was awarded a penalty kick. Caleb Ghia rose up to the occasion and slotted the ball into the left back of the net putting Bellows Falls on the board.
“While 1-4 is never our ideal game, we are a young team who still has a lot to show the other schools,” Hansen said. “I still always believe in our ability to succeed and currently we focus on our small victories that will lead us to being a great program.”
