Sr. Gloria Morin

Sr. Gloria Morin CLAREMONT — Sister Gloria Morin (formerly Sister Mary Matthias Peter), 80, a Sister of Mercy for 62 years, died Oct. 3, 2021, after a period of declining health. A native of Claremont, New Hampshire, she was born Feb. 2, 1941, the daughter of the late Ernest and Adele Rosia (Bonneau) Morin. Sister Gloria held a B.A. degree in Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, New Hampshire, and an M.S. degree in Elementary Education from Wheelock College, Boston, Massachusetts. She was a dedicated educator who taught at St. Raphael School, Blessed Sacrament School, St. George School, St. Catherine School and Mount Saint Mary Early Childhood Center (now Mount Saint Mary Academy) in Manchester, and Sacred Heart School in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She taught computer technology in the Teach to the Future Program for elementary and high school teachers and was an adjunct faculty member at Mount Saint Mary Early Childhood Center and Notre Dame College, Manchester. From 1976-2000, Sister Gloria was director at Mount Saint Mary Early Childhood Center/Mount Saint Mary Academy, and from 2000-2009, was the principal at the school. From 2009 until her retirement in 2012, she was head of Mount Saint Mary Academy. Sister Gloria was a member of the boards of trustees for Mount Saint Mary Academy and Marian Court College in Swampscott, Massachusetts, and a member of the Manchester Diocesan Math and Science Committees. She was involved in the University of New Hampshire Career Opportunity Program, the Moore House Project, and the Bill Gates Technology Program. After her retirement, Sister Gloria remained active, volunteering, doing community outreach, and enjoying outdoor activities. She had a great love of nature and felt it was important to have a nature-based program for students, getting them outdoors as much as possible. Sister Gloria is survived by the members of her Mercy Community; her brother, Richard Morin; nephews, Michael and Scott Normandin; niece, Renee Bickford; and several grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Henry Normandin. A celebration of Sister Gloria’s life will take place on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, New Hampshire, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, New Hampshire.
