The Newport Middle and High Schools and Sugar River Valley Regional Technology Center hosted the fourth annual Expo and Transition Fair on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. More than 150 parents, students, and community members were in attendance to enjoy the festivities.

The halls were filled with interactive academic engagements and displays of classroom themes and projects. Community resource providers were intermingled throughout the fair, providing an abundance of support through awareness of the many extended outreach programs and community support systems available to our families and students.

There were many special highlights during the evening’s event. The Newport Middle-High School band provided entertainment to the crowd throughout the hallways of the Expo. Ongoing student tours of our newly transformed Media Center were guided by students from the National Honor Society. Café Services provided a menu of seasonal favorites for all of our guests, including chili with cheese and corn bread, cupcakes, cookies and a beverage bar with coffee, tea and fruit water. The Newport Fire Department joined the Expo with fire safety demonstrations in the parking lot. The Department of Education attended with their “Access to Possibilities” virtual experience van.

The Sugar River Valley Regional Career Technical Education Center (CTE) hosted an open house, showcasing all of the CTE programs the district has to offer. At the midpoint of the Expo a presentation showing the new design of the CTE center was hosted by Julie Spence, Project Architect from Lavallee Brensinger Architects.

There were several drawings for prizes at the end of the evening. The winners of these are as follows: Chromebook: Christie Benoit; Cosmetology gift certificate: Glory Parker; Maple syrup: Logan Rusin; Tiger engraved picture: Haley Davis; Tiger headband: Daniel Hagar; Tiger memorabilia: Brad Palmer; Tiger shirt: Noel Beauchaine; Tiger travel mug: Kristy Poisson; Toy school bus: Kirsten Conroy.

The Newport Middle and High Schools and Sugar River Valley Regional Technology Center Administration, faculty and staff wish to thank our many community resource providers and local businesses for sharing their time and generous resources with the students and families of our district. To the students and families who participated in the Expo, we wish to thank you for helping to make the Expo another outstanding event and for coming together as a community to celebrate the many wonderful opportunities our district provides to help support student success.
