Roger W. Scheffer WEST UNITY — Roger W. Scheffer, 87, passed away peacefully in the home he loved, on Oct. 25, 2021. He was born on May 26, 1934, to Dorothy and Henry Scheffer. Roger lived his early years in Amityville, Long Island, New York, where he graduated high school in 1952. He became a shop teacher after graduating from SUNY at Oswego, New York in 1956 with a BS degree in education. His 25-year teaching career was with West Babylon School District on Long Island as a teacher and Department Chairman. He met his wife, the former Caryl Anderson, a student at Iowa State College and a Swedish Iowa farm girl. They were married six months later, on June 16, 1959. While living in Amityville, and teaching, they raised seven children. They were happily married for 62 years. In June of 1981 after 25 years in education, the family moved to West Unity, where he built their home on Straw Hill Road. Several years later, he started repairing and building reproductions of antique Windsor chairs. He joined the League of NH Craftsmen. He was a juried member and sold many chairs as his son, Peter, grandson Daniel and other family members all worked building chairs. Roger is survived by his: Roger and Robin Scheffer of Weathersfield, Vermont; Diana and Jim Booth of Cozumel, Mexico; Bridget and Todd Chicone of Michigan; Betsy and Steve Macek of Goffstown; David and Robin Scheffer of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina; Cate and Jeff Millette of Palmeto, Florida; and Peter and Lisa Scheffer of Unity; his brother, Conrad Scheffer; grandchildren, Daniel, Bethany, Philip, Tristan, Heather, Justin, Hillary, Genevieve, Chloe, Max, Olivia and Esmay; great grandchildren, Cohen, Benjamin, Sienna, Wren, Emily and Logan. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Scheffer; his wife, Caryl Scheffer; his grandson, Brandon Macek and his sister, Doris Kretz. A celebration of life and burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unity Fire and Rescue.
