WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. — A Springfield man has died of self-inflicted wounds following a domestic incident that left another man seriously injured and hospitalized early Wednesday afternoon.
The Vermont State Police said that 29-year-old Springfield resident Daniel Murray was visiting his mother and stepfather on Melody Lane in Weathersfield.
According to investigators, Murray “was experiencing a mental-health crisis” and his stepfather, 68-year-old David Brochu, was attempting to help Murray. Murray proceeded to break a glass-front cabinet and used a piece of glass to harm his stepfather, critically injuring Brochu. Brochu was still able to escape, at which point Murray self-inflicted himself with the object, killing him.

Brochu is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
First responders from the Weathersfield Police Department turned the scene over to the Vermont State Police for investigation who worked with members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Victims Services, and uniformed troopers from the Field Force Division. Law enforcement from Chester, Springfield, and Weathersfield as well as Ascutney Fire Department and Golden Cross Ambulance were on the scene.
The body of the deceased was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to document the cause and manner of death.
