WINDSOR, Vt. — A 59-year-old woman from Rockingham was killed and two more were injured Tuesday afternoon in a wrong-way crash with a suspected DUI driver on Interstate 91 in Windsor, police said.

Authorities identified Kathleen L. Spence, of Rockingham, as the person who died in the three-vehicle crash.

Vermont State Police said that the deadly collision occurred shortly after 4:36 p.m. on Tuesday when dispatch was notified of a 2015 Nissan Rogue driving erratically on Interstate 91 south near mile marker 51.

Authorizes say the vehicle, operated by Sarah Love, 34, of Waitsfield, was turned around and began traveling north in the southbound lane.

Five miles north of where the initial 911 call was placed, Love’s vehicle collided with a 2013 Fiat 500, driven by Rosemarie Reynolds, 34, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Kathleen L. Spence.

Spence was pronounced dead on the scene.

All three vehicles were totaled.

An investigation revealed that Love was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI. Love was transported to Mount Ascutney Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Love is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with death resulting and gross negligent operation with death resulting, according to police.

Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact Trooper Austin Soule or Trooper Eric Acevedo of the Westminster Barracks at 802-722-4600.

Vermont State Police were assisted by Windsor Fire and Rescue, Ascutney Fire Department, Windsor Police Department, J&M Auto, Vermont Agency of Transportation, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
