Claremont Senior Center News: December 4, 2021

Remember the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor? It took place on Dec. 7, 1941, or as then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt described it, “A day which will live in infamy.” There are not many Pearl Harbor veterans still with us but there are a few of us who can remember that terrible day.

The days are colder, gets dark much earlier and we have already seen our first snow of the season. We are open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are also open Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. As many of us do not like having to drive in the dark, a new game afternoon has started on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

We have many activities. There are sign-up sheets at the reception desk and the calendar in the lobby. Activities can be done anytime, including pool, knitting, hand and foot, mahjong, corn hole, chair exercise, and quilting. Socializing is always an option.

For the Foot Clinic, you must call 603-748-1731 to make an appointment with them. The fee is $25. This month’s dates are Dec. 8, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22.

There will be a blood drive at the Center on Monday, Dec. 27. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS to schedule your appointment. We thank all of those who donate.

Our next Men’s Breakfast will be on Monday, Dec. 13. Doors open at 8 a.m. and serving starts at 8:15 a.m. Open to the public. Men only. Members $2, nonmembers $3.

We are still holding our drive-thru meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here are the menu for next week:

Tuesday, Dec. 7Salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, and dessert.

Thursday, Dec. 9Soup, baked haddock, rice pilaf, vegetable, and dessert.

You must call 603-543-5998 by 10:30 a.m. to reserve your meal. Members $4, non-members $5. Drive-thru pickup is from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 pm. Meals are always subject to change.

Have you seen our first annual Claremont Senior Center Car Show Calendar for 2022? It features winners of this year’s 2021 car show with each month featuring a picture of a different class winning vehicle. Only $12 when picked up at the center, add $6 shipping and handling for each calendar if we mail to you. Makes a great gift or get one for yourself.

Our Wild Game Supper scheduled for February has been canceled.

We have this current policy at the Claremont Senior Center, because of COVID-19, so that we can continue to stay open. When entering the building, show your vaccine card at the desk to receive a dot. If no vaccine verification you get an orange dot, vaccine verified gets a different color dot. If you have an orange dot or no dot, you must wear a mask.
