Walter “Sonny” Truell NEWPORT — Walter “Sonny” Truell, 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Claremont on Nov. 29, 2021. He was born on Jan. 26, 1956, in Newport, New Hampshire, to the late Walter and Geraldine (Emerson) Truell. Sonny grew up in the Newport area where he had lived his entire life. Always a hardworking man, he was a manager at Ruger for 29 years before starting his second career owning and operating Truell’s Painting for more than 20 years. Sonny was a very kind man, fun-loving, and was loved by many. He loved spending his quiet time enjoying all things sci-fi related, doing puzzles, reading his favorite books, or even rewatching classic movies. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his stories and knowledge of many subjects with anyone willing to listen. His pride and joy was spending time with his family. Sonny was notable for the way he loved his family, friends and even strangers. Surviving family members include his brother, Rick Truell and wife Jo, of Woodstock, Vermont; sister, Lydia Kimball and husband Kevin, of Charlestown, New Hampshire; ex-wife and friend, Crystal; children, Matthew Truell and partner April Swasey, of Bethel, Vermont, Nicole Truell, of Newport, New Hampshire, Aaron Truell and partner Stefanie Young, of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Ryann Truell, of Lebanon, New Hampshire; daughter Angela Jones, of Newport; grandchildren, Owen, Dylan, Hayden, Collin, Lauren, Faith, Morgan, Paige, Kayleigh, Bryce, Gage, Christian and Chase; great-grandchildren, Brady, Bowen and Theodore; and nieces and nephews, Corey, Jason, Kristin, Megann and Justin. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH. Flowers will be gratefully accepted.
