Oscar R. Cross

Oscar R. Cross WINDSOR, Vt. — Oscar R. Cross, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, surrounded by family members, at the Stoughton House in Windsor, Vermont, after a period of declining health. Oscar was born June 23, 1933, in Springfield, Vermont, a son of Floyd and Lois (Spafford) Cross. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1951. Oscar was inducted into the Army and proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He returned to Vermont following his honorable discharge and married Elizabeth Blackington June 23, 1956, in Brownsville, Vermont, where they settled and made their home. Oscar was a member of the Brownsville Methodist Church and was also a member of the Windsor American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2014; his brothers, Floyd and Clayton Cross; and his sisters, Laverne Barton, Mary Miller and Carol Sanchez. Oscar is survived by five daughters, Cathy Conley, of Brownsville, Vermont, Lori Hood, of Windsor, Vermont, Colleen George, of Windsor, Vermont, Kelley Hacker, of Summerfield, Florida, and Karla Harrington, of Windsor, Vermont. Oscar is also survived by a brother, Gary Cross, of Perkinsville, Vermont; sisters, Patricia Ploof, of Chester, Vermont, Doris Olmstead, of Wilton, New York, and Sheila Miller, of Cape Coral, Florida; also, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. During his career as a machinist, he worked in several area shops and finished his machine shop time at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Windsor, Vermont. He enjoyed people and worked several part-time jobs later in life, especially at the Price Chopper store in Windsor, Vermont. Oscar was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed supporting Windsor High School sports. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Brownsville Cemetery when the family can get together.
