Local Roundup: Cardinals defense holds off Winnisquam, 45-39

Staff Report
The Cardinals used some stellar defense to hold the Bears (1-2) to 10 first-half points and open up a 16-point advantage.

But Winnisquam chipped away and got the lead down to three before the Cardinals (2-1) hit some free throws late to hold on.

Kayden LaClair scored 18 points, Hunter LaRocque added 10, and Reeve Wilkinson provided the defensive spark, and added six points, including two big free throws in the final minute.

Anthony Boomer had 14 points to lead Winnisquam. Stevens’ game scheduled for Wednesday against Hillsboro-Deering has been postponed.

FM 47, Raymond 36Brady Elliott scored 13 points, Mitch Cornier ended with 11, and Kyle Fisher was a force underneath scoring eight points and leading the Wildcats in rebounds.

“We got off to a great start tonight outscoring Raymond in the first quarter 12-3. Raymond pushed the tempo in the second quarter but I was proud of my guys and how they absorbed the run and still won the quarter. We went into halftime with a 23-13 lead. Our defensive pressure sped them up for much of the game,” said Fall Mountain head coach Mitch Harrison. “We we didn’t close things out as smoothly as I would have liked in the fourth quarter, turning the ball over too much.”

High scorer for Raymond was Drezall Duffaut with eight.
