Two women are dead and one man is hospitalized with serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Charlestown, according to local police.
Charlestown police said they received a call around 7 p.m. of a car traveling north on Route 12 (Claremont Road) around Fling Road that was “driving erratically” and “without headlights,” according to an updated news release provided by the Charlestown Police Department. Witnesses described the car, a 2006 Ford Mustang operated by Susan Gallant, 60, of Charlestown, as driving into the far-right side of the road and then swerving into the southbound lane.
Shortly following the initial call the Charlestown Police Department Emergency Dispatch Center received another report saying that the car had crashed head-on into another vehicle in the area of the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park.
Investigators said that the Ford Mustang crossed the center line and hit a 2013 Subaru Forester. Gallant was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru Forester, Lisa Schneider, 38, of Alstead, was also pronounced dead at the scene while her lone passenger, James Schneider, 57, of Alstead, was transported by the Golden Cross Ambulance Service to a local hospital with serious injuries.
James Schneider’s condition is not known at the time of publication.
Assisting the Charlestown Police Department and the Charlestown Fire Department at the scene were the New Hampshire State Police, Golden Cross Ambulance, Springfield Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
Charlestown police are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Chief Patrick Connors or Lieutenant Jonathan Graham at the Charlestown Police Department at 603-826-5747.
