Sidney G. Thurber

Sidney G. Thurber CLAREMONT — Sidney G. Thurber, 70, passed away on Jan. 29, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. He was born on June 23, 1951, in Newport, New Hampshire, to the late Nathaniel and Ina (Ring) Thurber. Sidney lived in the area most of his life, working several different jobs over the years including as a truck driver, as a census taker, and most recently, for NH DOT. He was a simple, humble, hardworking man who would do anything for his family. He married Diane (Morse) Thurber and they shared more than 49 years together. He would do anything for her and always provided for her and his family. Sidney loved cars and was always fixing one up and tinkering with them. His favorite car that he owned was a Comet. Sidney enjoyed going for a drive and was known as a bit of a lead foot. He was an amazing teacher, always patient. He loved Westerns and was an avid outdoorsman, always hunting and fishing. Sidney was predeceased by his parents; twin sons, Nathaniel and Cedric; brother, Scott Thurber; brother-in-law, Paul Greenwood; and father-in-law, Ralph Morse. Surviving family members include his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Thurber; daughters, Roseanna Rice and her boyfriend, Scott Hunter, Ivis Thurber and her fiance, Chris Ayotte Sr., Sheila Brochu and her husband, Justin, and Andrea Thurber and her fiance, Tim Beard; adopted sons, Fred Elwell and Steve Deveney; adopted daughter, Brianna Thurber; sisters, Laura Ryan and her husband, Walter, and Carolyn Greenwood; mother-in-law, Helen Osgood and her husband, Waylon; aunts, Jeanette Ring and Rebecca Holden; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, from 5 to 6 p.m. with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, New Hampshire.
