Eva M. Charles NEWPORT — Eva May Charles, 99, died on Feb. 4, 2022, at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport, New Hampshire. She was born on Oct. 31, 1922, in Guild, New Hampshire, to the late Charles Armstrong and Alice (Rollins) Armstrong. She worked at Sunny Slope Overnight Guest House in New London, New Hampshire, and also at the Newport Shoe Shop. She stopped working once she married and started a family with Victor Charles in 1944. Victor passed away on Sept. 18, 2001. Eva loved to cook, read, garden, gamble, go hiking, pick berries, and play cards and bingo with her friends. She loved spending time with her family and liked family cookouts. She has been a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since her baptism in 1957. She was predeceased by her parents; son, Michael J. Charles; sister, Edna Smith; and brothers, Richard, Philip, Ronald and Donald Armstrong. Surviving family includes her son, William Charles and his wife, Diane, of Newport; daughters, Beverly Nason, of Bower Bank, Maine, and Gail Proper and her husband, Randy, of Newport; grandchildren, Kevin and James Callum, Malinda Nason, Roxanne Nason, Tawna Fisher, Tad Charles, Tracy Beaulieu, Julie Proper, Jeremy Proper and Jodie Proper; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. A reception will follow at Assumption Hall.
