John L. Moody PEMBROKE — Mr. John Leonard Moody, 85, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on Feb. 5, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family. Born April 9, 1936, in Claremont, he was the son of the late Leonard Percy and Mary (McCusker) Moody. He was raised and educated in Claremont and was a graduate of Stevens High School in 1954. He was fondly referred to as Twink by his family and close friends. After high school, he went on to attend and graduate from the University of New Hampshire. He was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, remained an avid fan of UNH sports and consistently visited the campus throughout his lifetime. Following his time at UNH, he enlisted in the United States Navy Air from 1957 to 1961. After serving his country proudly, he resided in Sunnyvale, California, until 1970, when he moved back to New Hampshire for the remainder of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Yoshiko “Yoko” (Sunaga) Moody, of 49 years, who passed away in 2011. They shared a mutual love of long car rides throughout New England and attending Pembroke Academy sporting events together. Prior to his retirement, he had a long profession as a technical writer, concluding his career with Hewlett-Packard in 1998. An avid sports fan in life, he especially enjoyed golfing, fishing, basketball, baseball, and could be found rooting for all New England professional sports teams. He had a special love for model and sundial building and could often be found learning new trades and hobbies in his retirement. He is survived by his children, Alan (Karen) Moody, of Concord, and Yumi Moody-Kerns, of Pembroke. He is also survived by his siblings, Lenore M. Crowder (Dr. Bruce), David S. Moody (Emile W.), Joan Moody DeHaan, Anthony A. Moody (JeaneRose), and Christopher R. Moody. Additionally, he is survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. In accordance with his wishes, a private graveside service with military honors will be held in the Old Union Cemetery in Claremont. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date which will celebrate the lives of both John and Yoko Moody. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be sent to the Granite VNA Hospice House and/or the American Heart Association.
