CLAREMONT — Claremont police are investigating a Thursday night shooting that sent one man to the hospital.
Claremont police responded to Valley Regional Hospital on Thursday night at approximately 6:45 p.m. for a man seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the lower part of his body, according to a news release.
The investigation soon led the police to an apartment located on West Lafayette Street in Claremont where the investigators confirmed the gunshot wound occurred.
The man that was shot, whose identity has not been made public by law enforcement, is in stable condition and is being treated.
Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase reiterated in email correspondence on Friday that the incident is still an active investigation.
“We are still working the case,” Chase said. “We did complete a search warrant for the location of the shooting [and] we continue to investigate the incident. We believe all the people involved know each other and I do not believe there is any threat to the public.”
Those with any information that may assist in the investigation are asked to call Detective Joshua Peavey at 603-504-0234 or the Claremont Police anonymous tip line at 603-542-7026.
