CLAREMONT — TLC Family Resource Center has been providing services to people living in and around Newport for more than 30 years. Now, people in Newport and the surrounding community will be able to meet in person with TLC staff at Millie’s Place and Epiphany Episcopal Church.
It has long been a goal of TLC to have a satellite office in Newport. “We know that the people and families we partner with in Newport have busy lives. We want to be sure that location and transportation are not barriers for them to get the support needed to reach their goals,” said TLC Executive Director Stephanie Slayton.
When TLC Recovery Program Manager Dan Wargo learned that Millie’s Place, a sober club in Newport, was in jeopardy of closing, he reached out and asked about partnering to keep this important space open for people in recovery and to provide additional recovery services to the Newport community. An agreement was made to allow TLC to share office space at Millie’s Place.
TLC Recovery coaches are meeting with people by appointment Monday through Friday at Millie’s Place and TLC Recovery Programs will have open hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At the same time, Diane Edwards, TLC’s Family Support Program Director, realized that 25 percent of the families participating in TLC programs lived in the Newport area. She knew TLC could do a better job connecting with and supporting these families if the TLC office was a little closer to home. Edwards met with Epiphany Episcopal Church staff, and they agree to provide space for TLC to meet with families.
Family Support Specialists are meeting with people by appointment twice a week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We are grateful to the Newport community for welcoming us into these two spaces and look forward to serving families and people in recovery at Epiphany Episcopal Church and Millie’s Place,” Slayton said.
