WINDSOR, Vt. — Windsor Athletic Director Jim Taft has announced that Larry Dougher has been promoted to varsity boys basketball head coach.
“I am beyond excited to lead the program I have loved for so long,” said Dougher over the weekend.
Coach Dougher (‘00) has been a junior varsity boys head coach for 17 seasons starting his career at Stevens High School — with his last 12 years all at Windsor.
“We’re going to place a large emphasis on player development because we know good players lead to success on the court. I am big on teaching our players ‘how’ to play rather than ‘plays’ — and that’s why player development in practice will be such an emphasis for us throughout the program,” he said. “There will be times to take advantage of a matchup, but we want to give our players freedom within structure so that they are attacking and playing with confidence.”
Dougher played high school basketball for Harry Ladue, who capped off a 39-year varsity coaching at Windsor and it looks like the famous up-tempo Windsor game that began with coach John Barth in the 1970s will remain.
“We want to embrace the pace on both sides of the ball. We’re going to pressure the ball on defense and attack on offense” Dougher said. “The style of play should be very familiar to fans of Windsor basketball.”
