Leslie C. Hamilton

Leslie C. Hamilton NEWPORT — Leslie C. Hamilton, 74, of Second Street, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Concord Hospital, after a sudden illness. He was born in Newport on Feb. 18, 1948, the son of Henry and Marion (Colburn) Hamilton. Les graduated from Towle High School in Newport in 1966 and served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1970, stationed in Germany. He lived in Connecticut and was a tractor trailer driver for UPS in Stratford for 38 years, retiring in 2009 when he moved back to Newport. He really enjoyed working on his 1968 Pontiac car and also being a cannoneer with his brother firing the Legion Post #25 Civil War cannon at various places. He liked playing horseshoes at the Veterans Club and especially enjoyed country music and karaoke. Animals were a favorite with Les and dogs held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sandy (Mayo) Hamilton; his parents; and two brothers, Carrol and John Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Fairbanks) Hamilton; his son, Tom (Nikki) Hamilton, of Sequim, Washington; his daughter, Kristy Hamilton, of Milford, Connecticut; three stepchildren, Christine Vitti, of West Haven, Connecticut, Michael (Elizabeth) Gonsalves, of East Haven, Connecticut, Tonya Gonsalves, of West Haven, Connecticut; five grandchildren, Anthony Vitti, Jessica (Craig) DiFulvio, Miro Gonsalves, Hailey Gonsalves and Jenna Gonsalves; two brothers, Paul (Sophie) Hamilton, of Springfield, New Hampshire, and his twin, Lloyd Hamilton, of Newport, New Hampshire; two sisters, Virginia Berquist, of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Shirley Sanborn, of Bristol, New Hampshire; nieces, nephews and cousins.
