Janice Albright Lambert CHARLESTOWN — Janice “Jan” Albright Lambert, age 70, of Charlestown, New Hampshire, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire, following a few months of declining health due to cancer. Jan was born in Washington, DC, grew up in the Virginia suburbs, and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. There, she met her husband, John Lambert. They were married in 1973, and bought a piece of undeveloped woodland in the hills of Charlestown. They had a post-and-beam frame erected for their house, but did most of the work themselves. Jan kept very busy clearing brush, running a small bulldozer, and applying wood finish to their new home. In the midst of all the building activity, their first child, Martha, was born in 1975. In 1979, her little sister, Mary, arrived. She created vegetable gardens and lawns and ran the household with no electricity for 10 years. She raised her daughters with plenty of time outside in nature, horses and ponies to ride or pull carts, many pets and several farm animals to care for. She found joy in singing and playing the guitar at church, and passed along her love of music to her daughters and grandchildren. After her daughters grew up, Jan had more time to develop her own interests. She earned a Master’s degree in Community-Based Education in 1999 and then developed various nature programs for area children and adults. She also had some unusual jobs such as diving in area ponds and rivers to remove invasive plants, and surveying frogs and toads at night by identifying their calls. In recent years, Jan was busy caring for her mother, who passed away in 2021. Jan’s love of nature was intertwined with her love of God, and she was passionate about enjoying and protecting God’s creation. She was happiest spending time outdoors, sometimes alone, or with her family or one of her several hiking buddies. She was editor of the Valley Green Journal, and formed relationships with scientists and environmentalists around the world to promote ecological restoration. In 2015, she published a book, “Water, Land and Climate – The Critical Connection.” She lit a fire in many people’s hearts, and people around the globe benefit from her work. Jan is survived by her devoted husband, John Lambert, of Charlestown, New Hampshire; daughter Martha Maki and husband Matt Maki, and daughter Mary Morin and husband Jeff Morin Sr. Other survivors include grandchildren, Kayla Rivet, Troy Putnam, Emily Miner, Michelle Holvani, Lukas Maki and Markus Maki; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charles Albright Jr. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Charles and Margery Albright; and her sister, Julie Albright.
