Hitting the Track: Results from around the local varsity track ranks

Springfield Tracksters Set Records

Manchester, Vt. — On Tuesday the Springfield Track & Field Team traveled to Applejack sports complex in Manchester Vermont to face host Burr and Burton Academy along with Arlington, Leland & Grey, Mid-VT Christian, and Woodstock. Warm, dry conditions challenged the competitors in terms of hydration and recovery, but also yielded many Personal Records.

Cosmos Senior Captain Tim Amsden led the Men’s team in points, winning the 110m high hurdles with a Personal Record of 17.34, as well as the 300m hurdles, with a PR of 44.52. His classmates, captains Chris Jeffers and Aidan Donahue, also contributed wins in Long Jump(17’9”), and Shot(38’8”) respectively.

Jeffers also placed 3rd in High Jump(5’6”), and 7th in 400m(60.10), while Donahue ran a PR of 62.07 finishing 8th. Junior Damian Stagner took 3rd place in the 1500m with a 5:01.87, while classmate Dylan Magoon came in 5th at 5:06.77, both season’s bests. They combined with freshman Evan Pope and sophomore Marshall Simpson to place 3rd in the 4x800m relay. Simpson also ran PRs in both the 400m(64.42), and the 800m(2:32.50). Freshman Hunter Ferland placed 5th in shot with a PR of 31’11.5”, and got PRs in disc(64’9”), and Jav(96’) as well.

On the women’s side, Springfield senior Captain Alicia Ostrom ran personal records in the 1500m, placing 4th(5:56.38) and in the 800m, placing 5th(2:53.55). Senior Captain Gabby Anders placed 4th in Javelin with a season’s best 67’6”, while her classmate Liv Loney got 5th(65’9”). Molly tennis finished 8th with a PR of 56’1”, and Neptune Pope threw 47’7” in their first competition. Junior Zinny Harris placed 4th in 100m hurdles with a PR of 21.71, and tied for 6th in HJ with a best of 4’0”. Sophomore Hannah Zierfus took 3rd in shot (22’1”), and finished 9th in disc with a PR of 56’3”.

Senior Taigen Dezaine placed 5th in shot(20’10.5”), and led the cosmos sprinters with a 15.57 in the 100m, and a PR of 33.59 in the 200m. Junior Kaylee Moore tied Dezaine in 200m. They combined with Sophomores JJ Prouty and Hailey Sliker to place 4th in the 4x100m relay(1:02.87). Sliker teamed with Ostrom, Erika Knudsen, and junior Olivia Howard to place 3rd in the 4x800m relay(12:56.52).

The Cosmos will be hosting the Springfield invitational as Woodstock and White River Valley will tangle with Springfield on Wednesday, 5/18, starting at 4pm.
