James R. Roy

James R. Roy CLAREMONT — James R. Roy, 66, of 93 Sullivan St. in Claremont, died unexpectedly on May 16, 2022. He was born in Berlin, New Hampshire, on April 27, 1956, the son of Donald and Doris (Jutras) Roy. The family moved to Claremont in 1963, and Jim attended St. Mary Grammar School and La Salette Seminary in Enfield, New Hampshire, before graduating from Stevens High School in 1974. Jim was active in sports year-round as a student, excelling at hockey, baseball and soccer at La Salette and Stevens. Jim was a jack-of-all-trades after graduation, collecting lifelong friendships and collaborations as he tried his hand at various vocations, including train conductor, roofing foreman, factory worker and construction laborer. In 1994, Jim received a degree from Hudson Valley College’s School of Mortuary Science and took over operation of the Roy Funeral Home from his father, Donald, who retired in 1996. Jim was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and any type of outdoor activities. He loved animals and was very fond of his “grand dogs.” He was a member of the Elks, and an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion. Jim was a master of the inappropriate joke and beloved by his friends for his exhaustive collection of humorous stories. He delighted in sharing celebrations and was known for his special wardrobe for every holiday. Jim took great joy in his many friendships and shared summers at his beloved Loon Lake campground. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, kindness and camaraderie. Jim is survived by his wife of 10 years, Lori; daughter Michelle and her partner, Greg Kloosterman, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; daughter Kayla Roy and grandson Mason Leoutsakos, of Claremont; son Nick Roy and his fiancée, Stefanie Glimenakis, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; and daughter Hayleigh Roy, of Claremont. He leaves a brother, Jon Roy and his wife, Sheila Pierson-Roy, of Strafford, New Hampshire; and their sons, Benjamin and wife Kate Roy, of Beverly, Massachusetts, and Timothy and wife Amber, of Barrington, New Hampshire. Additional family include Lori’s children, Jordan Schucart and Zach Schucart and his wife, Jillian, and daughter Leah. Calling hours will be hosted by the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home at the Roy Funeral Home site at 93 Sullivan St. in Claremont. Friends may call from 5–8 p.m. on Friday, May 20. Funeral will also be held at the Roy Funeral Home on Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Turning Points Network, 11 School St., Claremont, NH 03743.
