Letter to the Editor: Charging for Recycling

It is with a confused and heavy heart that I write this letter. I just found out that our local re-cycling center is going to start charging $1.00 a bag for re-cycling. I am beyond belief. To me, this misses the entire point of re-cycling. I am so disappointed that I won’t be re-cycling anymore (and do my part to clean up the world) because I refuse to pay for it. I feel like this just adds to the long list of corporate America nickel-and-diming us to death. I have noticed lately sneaky little charges for small amounts on bills from companies that we have used for years. Ex. A “hazardous substance” charge for oil delivery charge sneakily worked into your bill without notifying you or being listed anywhere on their website, a “gas fee” tacked on, etc., etc. I wonder if these companies employ someone to stay up all night and think how they can get more money. That is really what it is all about. No one cares about human beings anymore; it’s all about the almighty dollar. Everything else is being raised in price, why not join the band-wagon and kick us all when we’re down and struggling to feed our families. So sad-it makes me feel hopeless.
