Ronald A. Meier

Ronald A. Meier CHARLESTOWN — Ronald A. Meier, 72, of Charlestown, died peacefully May 18, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on March 11, 1950, in Winchester, Massachusetts, the son of Alvin A. Meier and Harriett (Colburne) Fullilove. Ron grew up on Martin’s Pond in North Reading, Massachusetts. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Tidewater and served in the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal for two tours. After his discharge, he returned to New England and settled in Charlestown, New Hampshire, in 1971. He was trained as a flooring installer and then started his own installation and carpentry business. Ron worked in the twin state area for over 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing immensely. He was also known to ride a snowmobile too fast every once in a while. Later in life, Ron took up golf and never turned down an opportunity to play. He was very social and enjoyed being around friends. Ron was married to Deborah K. Meier for 32 years. She passed away in 2002. He later reconnected with his childhood sweetheart, Frances W. Benjamin, and the two married in 2004. They moved to Ocala, Florida, shortly after. Ron and Fran returned to Charlestown permanently in 2018, calling Crown Point Drive home. In addition to his father and first wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard. Surviving family include his wife, Frances; daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, David Thibault; Robert Meier Jr., the nephew whom he called his son; stepchildren, Rich, Rhonda, Randy and Ronnie Benjamin, and their respective partners/spouses; his mother, Harriet Fullilove; three brothers, Robert, Roger and Randall Meier; and his best friend, Walter Piletz Jr. The two men always had some adventure or comical hunting/fishing story to share that would make others laugh with tears. Ron also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brooke and Aden Thibault, Tyler, Joe, Mitch, Crystal, Aaron and Brienne Benjamin; and his beloved Yorkie, Lexi. Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Stringer’s Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main St., Charlestown. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at the Charlestown VFW Auxiliary Post, 365 Lovers Lane Road, Charlestown, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The family would like to thank Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice and the nurses and doctors at the White River Junction VA Medical Center for the excellent care they provided to Ron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice. To view an online memorial or send a private message of condolence, visit www.stringerfh.com.
