Carolyn M. Rollins NEWPORT — Carolyn M. Rollins passed away on May 18, 2022. She was born on Feb. 16, 1935, in Newport, to the late Raymond and Ellen (Koivisto) Murgatroy. Carolyn married the late Robert Rollins and they enjoyed 53 years together before his death in 2006. Carolyn was employed at the Newport Middle High School cafeteria. During the early years, Carolyn became a “second mother” to many of Skip’s and Pete’s friends with her Pleasant Street home being the first stop after school or games. Carolyn got involved with younger kids and teenagers. She was a former den mother for the Cub Scouts, leader in 4-H, and treasurer and then president of the Booster Club. Carolyn loved all things Newport. She attended many Newport sporting events over the years. She worked at the Newport Senior Center and got to know and enjoy the old folks. She taught them how to crochet and knit. She enjoyed watching New England sports, cooking, knitting and crocheting. She and her husband enjoyed travelling, visiting many states and several places in Canada and Norway. Carolyn was a very generous person and made sure everyone had a card for their birthday or special event. She always had a little gift for her children, grandchildren and friends, and continued to write letters to them even in this day in age of email and texts. Carolyn spent the last 15 years at Summercrest in Newport where she was the longest resident and made many dear friends and would welcome and support new residents. She made sure all the residents had birthday cards, get well card or a Red Sox schedule. The family would like to send a special thank-you to all the staff at Summercrest for all the care, support and friendship. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert Rollins; siblings, Raymond Murgatroy, Ronald Murgatroy and Shirley Merriam; and by her grandson, Specialist Justin Rollins. Surviving family members include her two sons, Mitchel “Skip” Rollins and his wife, Rhonda, of Newport, and Peter and his wife, Trisha, of Croydon; grandchildren, Jonathan Rollins and his wife, Samantha, Joshua Rollins and William Rollins, and great-grandson, Aaron Rollins; and many other extended family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Scholarship Fund, Trustee of the Trust Fund, 15 Sunapee St., Newport, NH 03773, Attn: Paul Brown, in memory of Justin Rollins. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Croydon Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. A reception will be held following the services. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
