LANGDON — The Cardinals’ Mia Herbert and the Wildcat’s Kendal Cote matched each other pitch for pitch in the early going on Thursday, until Kiley Bundy’s blast over the left field fence in the third inning gave Stevens a lead that they would not let go of as Stevens won 5-1.
Josie Aiken’s single set the table for the Cardinal’s to grab another run in the 4th inning then they would add another in the 5th when Zoie Stevens would cross the plate giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead entering the final inning.
The Cardinals would add some insurance in their half of the 7th inning before the Wildcats would put a number on the scoreboard. Aly Lantz would draw a walk then come around to score before Herbert would end any thoughts of a Fall Mountain comeback to grab another win for the freshman hurler. “I felt good all game, Fall Mountain is tough but my screwball was hitting the spots pretty well today and our defense was solid,” said Herbert. “We are ready for the playoffs”.
Stevens would out-hit Fall Mountain six to three, with Bundy leading the way with two hits, while scoring two runs. Ashley Putnam led the Wildcats in the hit column going 2-for-3 on the day. Herbert and Cote both went the distance with each pitcher collecting nine strikeouts.
Stevens stands at 13-3 in Division 2, while Fall Mountain closes out with a 7-9 record as both teams await playoff seedings.
