Local Track Stars Dominate

Young and Gilbert Pace Yellow Jackets

Janiah Young and Ben Gilbert led Windsor to second place finishes in the men’s and women’s events as Thetford Academy took top billing on Saturday while Springfield’s Tim Amsden grabbed the 110m and 300m hurdle championship.

Thetford Academy brought their powerful runners into Windsor for the SVL track and field meet on Saturday. TA has no track and heads to Hanover to use their facilities for the pole vault and high jump while the runners run on grass around the village yet they still beat everyone and headed home with both the men’s and woman’s titles after convincing wins.

Windsor placed second in both divisions and were powered by Janiah Young who placed first in the women’s 100m, 200m and long jump. State record holder Ben Gilbert easily won the discus and the shot put.

Other local winners included: Olivia MacLeay-Windsor- 100m hurdles, Windsor girls 4×100(Sophia Rockwood, Rhaiven-Essense Kellog, Kiara Wildgoose, Janiah Young),Audri Pettirossi-Windsor-pole vault, Tydus Percy-javelin-Windsor, Windsor boys-4×100(Jonathan Dexter, Ben Gilbert,Travis McAllister, Keegan Batchelder).

Newport Track Team Shines at Meet of Champions

Tiger sophomore Kyle Ashley would finish 5th in the men’s javelin with a throw of 155ft 4in while

Newport freshman Maddox Lovely grabbed a 4th place in the women’s 300m hurdles running in a time of 48:46 then Lovely took 7th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16:54.

Other local competitors include:

Dylan Chambers of Stevens ran an 11:48 in the men’s 100m

Maddox Cahill of Sunapee ran a 43:78 in the men’s 300m hurdles

Taylor Fellows of Newport ran a 2:26:81 in the woman’s 800m

Sophia Bruzgis of Fall Mountain jumped 30ft 7.25 in in the women’s triple jump

Sierra Proper of Fall Mountain had a throw of 91ft 6in in the women’s discus

Ashley and Lovely will compete in the New England outdoor track and field championships to be held at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, CT on Saturday, June 11.
