Claremont Packs the Fireworks

CLAREMONT — There are two absolute truisms that generations of old timers have sworn by on summer weekends at Claremont Motorsports Park. And both are lined up perfectly for the first Friday of July.

First, it’s long been said, if Mt. Ascutney is visible from its spot just across the river, it will be a fine night for racing. And secondly, if it’s Independence Day weekend in the Twin State Valley, fans are in for the biggest and brightest show in the region.

The good news? The weatherman is saying the view of the mountain will be crystal clear this Friday, July 1. And CMP promoter Mike Parks is taking care of the rest, as he serves up an eight-division card of racing at the Thrasher Road speedplant, capped by the oval’s traditional huge Independence Day aerial fireworks display.

A large field of Street Stocks will converge on CMP Friday for the annual running of the 73-lap Richard Tetreault Memorial Race, with its added distance and added purse attracting the region’s best.

The speedway’s Late Model Sportsman, Mini Stock, Pure Stock, and Six Shooter divisions will also be in action, along with the visiting NELCAR Legend and Bandalero series. And to cap the on-track action off, it’s the season’s second NHSTRA King of The Hill Enduro 50-lapper.

Post time for CMP’s July 1 big event is 7 p.m.
