Carl Ernest “Ernie” Harris CLAREMONT — Carl Ernest “Ernie” Harris, 65, of Claremont, NH and Naples, Florida passed away on July 11, 2022. He was born May 24,1957 to Carl Elgin and Elizabeth “Calderwood” Harris in St. Johnsbury, VT growing up in several states as the child of a career military dad. In 1986, Carl married Marilyn Crosby making their home in Claremont. From an early age Ernie was fearless climbing onto the boot of an open convertible at age 3 while traveling down a CA highway. Later he was known for driving at raceway speeds in his blue Dodge Duster or flying down the ski slopes with family. Carl attended Stevens High School in Claremont where he excelled in wrestling and cross country. In 1975 he enlisted in the Marine Corps (USMC) later joining the NHNG (744th Transportation Company) serving tours in Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operation Iraqi Freedom, retired as Sergeant First Class in 2005. In addition to his military career, he enjoyed and was extremely talented at “playing in the dirt with big boy toys” for the FW Whitcomb and Bazin Brothers construction companies. He was also a talented finish carpenter and his homes were a reflection of that talent. Family was always his first priority and their lives were so enriched by his love. Carl was predeceased by his parents, stepmom Joyce Harris, father in law, Edward Denis and sister-in-law, Kim Read. He is survived by his wife; two children, daughter, Candace Cadieux (Matthew) of Swanton, VT and son, Gregory Harris of Golden, Colorado, two grandchildren, Michael Stowe and Shelby Cadieux, also of Swanton, VT; brothers Carlton Harris (Renee) of Willimantic, CT, and Mark Gader (Angel) of Plant City, FL; sisters, Betty Pierce (Michael) of Charlestown, NH and Beverly Chartier (Chris) of VT; his mother-in-law Barbara Denis-Fleurant of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law, Susan Crosby McKenna (Robert) of Rockport, MA, Jan Gilmore (Robert) of Warwick, RI and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, NH, Sunday, July 17 from 2 to 4 PM and a funeral service with military honors will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 18, at 11:00 AM. A private burial will follow at a later date.
